In development
We’re preparing a new series of listening sessions and community conversations rooted in San Leandro and open to people across the Bay Area.
Together, we’ll explore the issues that shape everyday life, hear different perspectives, and develop knowledge that is useful to our communities.
We’re planning the first conversations for the coming months. Topics, dates, locations, and language arrangements will be announced as they are confirmed.
Questions we’re developing
These themes are starting points. Community interest and collaboration will help shape the first sessions.
Home & Everyday Life
What helps people make a home and remain part of their community?
Conversations include affordable housing, housing stability, homelessness, food costs, and the household tradeoffs people make to live here.
Health, Care & Aging
What makes it easier (or harder) to get care and live well?
Conversations include healthcare access, mental well-being, caregiving, aging, disability access, and finding understandable information and support.
Getting Around & Staying Safe
How do people reach the places they need to go and feel comfortable in shared spaces?
Conversations include public transportation, walking, accessible travel, neighborhood safety, and experiences using streets, parks, and other public places.
Learning, Work & Opportunity
What helps people learn, earn a living, and build a future?
Conversations include schools, family participation, youth opportunities, job searches, career changes, training, digital skills, and the effects of changing technology on work.
Community Voice & Public Choices
How can people understand public decisions and take part in shaping them?
Conversations include language access, public services, local budgets, taxation, and the practical experience of being heard by institutions.
Connection, Meaning & Resilience
What helps people feel connected, find purpose, and support one another through change?
Conversations include belonging, spirituality, intergenerational understanding, social isolation, climate preparedness, and mutual support. Conversations about meaning and spirituality will welcome religious, spiritual, and secular perspectives.
English and other languages belong here
We’re developing conversations in English and other languages, shaped by local interests and community needs. English-language conversations will receive the same attention to cultural context, respectful facilitation, and different ways of communicating.
Each session will identify its conversation language and available language support. You do not need to speak another language or be learning one to take part.
What we want these conversations to make possible
A place to share experience. Start with what people encounter in everyday life and the questions they want to explore.
An opportunity to hear something different. Make room for experiences and perspectives that may not match our own.
Something useful to take away. Plan appropriate summaries or resources that help carry the conversation forward.
Before each session, we will explain its purpose, participation arrangements, and how contributions may be used. Details about recording or publication will be provided for that session.
Help shape the first sessions
You can suggest a topic, tell us about a community we should listen with, or explore helping with a venue, outreach, language support, or facilitation.
